Intent

  • To cultivate a deep understanding of human behaviour and mental processes.
  • To explore topics such as memory, social influence and mental health. Which support pupils in navigating life as they develop.
  • To teach and embed skills such as critical evaluation, data analysis, problem solving, communication and research, which are transferrable across many subjects, useful in everyday situations and key in further education.
  • To support pupils to learn that Psychology can help them comprehend themselves and others, therefore fostering empathy and critical thinking.

Implementation:

  • Theoretical and practical based exploration of psychological principles.
  • Regular assessment and feedback. Informally, during lessons and more formally, throughout both years pupils will be assessed on each topic, including regular opportunities to practice exam style questions.
  • Pupils will follow the AQA scheme of work.

Specification:

Pupils will sit all their exams at the end of the course.

Impact:

  • Pupils will be able to critically evaluate psychological theories and case studies.
