School Closure: Thursday 25th June
The decision has been made to close GTS on Thursday 25th June 2026. This will be a full day closure.
Whilst the heat has been a challenge, attendance has been at around 80%, and I thank parents and pupils for their support and their excellent behaviour today. Old schools like GTS were not designed for the challenges of climate change but it is important that we build resilience and our commitment to Education. These events are likely to be more common in our children’s lifetimes, and it will be something we will all need to learn to live with for longer periods of time.
However, the decision has been reached as a result of failures in our key safety systems and alarms, due to the high temperatures. This has caused the control panel to fail and we are having this fully replaced as a priority tomorrow.
Safety has always been at the heart of our decision making for pupils and staff and we are not able to operate the school safely without these systems.
All pupils will have work for tomorrow set on Class Charts, this will be specific to each of their individual lessons and we do expect pupils to engage. Whilst the school is closed, it is not considered a day off.
We have every intention to be fully open on Friday 26th June with a return to full curriculum provision. However, please do continue to monitor Parentmail.
Any mocks that were cancelled will be rescheduled and you will be notified of the new dates shortly.
