Parents & Friends Association

Great Torrington School has a thriving Parents and Friends Association.  We met once or twice per term on a weekday night.  We are a small, friendly committee and always welcome new members.  There are normally 6 - 8 people at each meeting and a group of about 10 other people who offer regular help and support at events, although they can't always attend the meetings.

Our members are a mixture of long standing residents as well as parents who are new to the area, plus a couple of members of staff.

Thanks to the support of parents, staff and friends, the PFA has been very successful in fundraising for the school.  The main events we organise are Christmas and Valentine Discos, Easter Bingo and refreshments at many of the activities the school arranges throughout the year.

Until September 2010, we aim to raise £1,000 via North Devon Journal's YOURPICS feature.  In case you haven’t noticed it before, the NDJ print a couple of pages of photos every week, which have been submitted on behalf of various charities. Being nominated as one of these charities enables us to receive £1 for every photo the NDJ print in this section for a whole year. They are keen to receive photos of anything which might be of interest to readers in North Devon they don't have to be related to the school.

It is great to see pictures of our pupils and their families attending events, parties, activities, sports, etc., so please, get that camera out and email your photos over to:

yourpicstorridge@northdevonjournal.co.uk

Make sure your email states that you would like GTS PFA to benefit if your photo is printed. If you have any problems submitting photos, please contact Nick Muir, Site Manager or Jax Williams (Chair of PFA) via the school office.

The money raised goes directly towards supporting our childrens education.  When funds are available, all departments within the school are invited to contact the PFA to ask for money to support one-off projects or buy equipment.  For example we have been able to support the purchase of baking tins, science and sports equipment, maths games and new flooring for the sick room.

The Parents & Friends Association is a great way to find out more about the school, enjoy social events, get involved and make a difference to your child's education. You would always be welcome to come along to any of the PFA meetings or events, please do get in touch with me via the school if you would like to find out more.
