National Citizen Service select Great Torrington School as a Champion School

National Citizen Service (NCS), the government backed youth citizenship programme, has selected Great Torrington School to be one of their Champion Schools for 2015-2016.

As a Champion School, GTS fully embraces the NCS award into their ethos.

Year 11 pupils can join the programme which has been designed to help young people build skills for work and life, take on new challenges and meet new friends.  Participants develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they're passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into action in their community.

We are hoping that once again a large number of our Year 11 will take part in the scheme and reap the immediate benefit, but also the longer term rewards as well.  For pupils looking to ultimately progress on to university, UCAS recognise NCS as an extra-curricular activity which can demonstrate skills on UCAS application forms.

Year 11 will have a launch assembly in the New Year.
