Multi Skills Festival 2016

On the 20th October 2016, Great Torrington School ran a Multi Skills Festival for reception, Year 1 and 2 pupils from Torrington feeder schools on the school's astro turf. The festival involved 300 children, a number of Year 7 leaders from the Learner's Baccalaureate challenge and Mrs Frickleton.

Part of the Year 7 Learner's Baccalaureate course involved running a session for children, so this day was well suited to them. They were given a brief of how to set up the activity, but the organisation, leadership qualities and overall running was all down to them. Working in groups of 3 to 4, they ran a variety of activities suited to the age range, including, among others: dodgeball, jumping over ropes, throwing games and relay races. Each session lasted 10 minutes and was full of high quality leadership, fun games, and developed the children's skills and teamwork.

Sports leaders helped to guide groups round the course and helpfully motivate & encourage them. They were also responsible for making sure the transition from session to session was smooth. Alex Ferrer, a leader from Year 7, said, ''the day has been a great experience, I felt more confident that I thought I would be at delivering the activities, it was great fun.''

Mrs Frickleton, who helped organise the event, said, 'It's great to see the pupils working as a team and showing off their skills as excellent leaders. They are a credit to Great Torrington School.  All the young people that came today put in so much hard work and effort into every activity, it was fantastic to watch everyone enjoying themselves through sport.'
