John Stanier, Assistant Headteacher at Great Torrington School was invited by the IT company Itslearning to attend the British Education Training and Technology Show last week. The show was held at the huge Excel Centre in London docklands and attracted 30,000 visitors from 100 different countries. Itslearning has been working with Great Torrington School to introduce a new virtual learning environment. The company were so impressed with the innovative curriculum used at GTS, that they wanted to use it as a showcase for their product. Itslearning produced a range of promotional material featuring GTS pupils and the new Year 7 curriculum, that were widely circulated at the event.

"It was strange having your picture projected onto a large wall with thousands of people walking past but I soon got used to the fame" said John.

Great Torrington School had also been asked by the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust to speak at BETT as part of their Speed Learning event.  John shared the key aspects of GTS's ground-breaking curriculum with a wide audience. Teachers from across the country and as far away as Finland and Dubai were impressed with the forward thinking that is taking place at Great Torrington School.
