Great Torrington School Pupils show positive community action

Great Torrington School and Community Action Through Sport (CATS) hosted a very special awards ceremony today that recognise and celebrated sixty five pupils for the positive contributions they make to their communities and in doing so encourage them to keep up the good work.  Mr James Jarroudi, from Torridge District Council Leisure Services and Louise Harris from Active Devon presented GTS pupils with their certificates today.

This is the second CATS award ceremony that GTS pupils have been recognised, as Great Torrington School had so many pupils nominated for the awards that were held last summer at the Pier house that a separate ceremony was put on just for them.  Pupils were recognised for a variety of roles from helping out at local sports clubs, local charities such as the plough to Streetz gang putting in an amazing effort into fundraising for local and national charities.  Pupils were also recognised for School CATS awards that recognised pupils who give up their own time before and after school and lunchtime to assist others as reading club mentors and literacy leaders.

We hope that that they will tell their friends and family all about the reward they have just taken part in and will also be inspired to do something positive for their community.
