North Devon Schools Athletics Championship Report

Posted on: 21/05/2014

We took 18 pupils to a strong competition in the North Devon Athletics Championships for a sunny day at Braunton.
There were some fantastic performances resulting in several medals and several being considered for selection at the Devon Schools Championships.

For the Inter Girls; Briony Harris won Gold in both the Shot put and Discus, whilst in the Inter boys Sam Musslewhite picked up Gold & Silver in the Long Jump & 200m.  Sam West took to the throwing cage and came out runner up.

In the Junior Girls category Caitlin Gallagher competing in 3 events came 2nd in the Long Jump, 3rd in the Discus with a new PB and 5th in the 100m. Sister Megan got a new PB in the 200m and received the silver medal. Abi Davey competing against the year above did fantastic and was possibly the "athlete of the day for GTS". Abi had 6 races in total making 3 finals in the 100m, 200m & 4x100m; finishing joint 3rd in the 100m, 4th in 200m and the team were 2nd in the relay. Abi was 1st in her age group over both sprint races.

In the Junior Boys category Callum Vingoe came 2nd in the 200m and experimented with a new event in the 300m, winning his heat comfortably but narrowly missing out on the gold on time from the first heat, giving him the silver.

There was a good battle in the 800m with Toby Craven and Curtis Pyke battling near the front of the pack. Curtis finished 4th putting him in the selection consideration with Toby just behind him in 5th.

Harrison East possibly our "male athlete of the day" dominated the High Jump and narrowly missed out on the gold in the Long Jump.

All 18 pupils did the school and themselves proud competing in great attitude and spirit with the Juniors Girls coming 2nd in the 4x100m relay and the Junior Boys coming 3rd in the relay.
