Shakespeare in 48 hours!

Posted on: 20/07/2018

On the evening of Thursday 5th July, Henry V and his Band of Brothers defeated the French at GTS – in a stunning production of Shakespeare’s famous play Henry V. Pupils in Year 7 and 8 from across North Devon – Braunton, Ilfracombe, Holsworthy and Barnstaple had come together to put on this remarkable piece of theatre. What was even more remarkable was that the pupils had only two days in which to do it! The cast of thirty had diligently learnt their lines and delivered passionate performances in perfect Shakespearean prose. There was even one scene delivered in (almost) flawless French.

Parents and grandparents flocked from across North Devon to watch the performance and were stunned by the accomplishment of what their children had achieved. Mr Cloke, Mr Pluckrose, Mrs Mounce and Mrs Smith, who facilitated this great event, were equally astounded with quality of  the pupils’ performances. Not only was dramatic, historical and linguistic knowledge explore in depth but new friendships were made between children from a variety of schools.

We hope to offer more opportunities to stretch and challenge high attaining pupils from across North Devon in more events next year.
