GTS Staff awarded 'CREST Teacher Participation Award'

Posted on: 16/10/2015

We are delighted to announce that Great Torrington School has been awarded a 2014-2015 'CREST Teacher Participation Award' by the British Science Association. This award acknowledges the school's outstanding support of CREST Awards.  In the last year the team supported 188 pupils to achieve their bronze CREST Award and this figure is set to grow in 2015-2106.

The CREST Awards are all about students engaging in real and meaningful STEM projects and seeing through their ideas from inception to completion and reflection.  The scheme promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and this is promoted and led very effectively through the enrichment programme at Great Torrington School. In 2014-2015 pupils took part in CREST Awards that included, 'Animal Enrichment' working with Paignton Zoo, 'Fizzy Drinks' making their own ginger beer, 'Fizzy Bath Bombs', 'Guitar Making', 'Skateboard making', 'Build an Amplifier' and 'Forensic Science' with the police making a visit the GTS Crime Lab!

Well done team GTS, your recognition of outstanding contribution to enriching pupils' experiences of STEM subjects has truly been deserved.

Staff recognised are; Tara Neve-Scott, Will Dorrell, Scott Davies, Rachel Higgs, Nick Naylor, Katy Quick, Jenny Nicholson, Gill Kerr, Dave Rawle, Jacqui Whiteman and Alison Ross.
