The Carnegie medal winner from 2015 was the guest speaker at this year’s North Devon event kindly hosted at Braunton Academy where principal Mike Cammack and librarian Sue Howes welcomed everyone to the new school library.  Author Tanya Landman, who won with ‘Buffalo Soldier’ shared many of her life experiences before becoming an award winning writer.   The events leading up to winning the medal were closely guarded and worldwide media interest ensued.  Tanya lives locally and actively supports libraries and the culture of reading for young people.

Students from Bideford, Braunton, Park, Holsworthy, Ilfracombe, South Molton & West Buckland schools were all allocated a book a few weeks ago by Babcock LDP School Library Services from the Carnegie shortlist.   The presentations included film, drama and strong arguments!  GTS presented their views on why the book ‘Fire Colour One’ by Jenny Valentine should be a winner in 2016.   L-R Yvonne Coatham, Holly Rice Smith, Tanya Landman, Zara Stevens, Georgia Duncan & Courtney Martin.  “We love reading the best books and look forward to telling everyone what it was like to meet Tanya Landman and hold the real Carnegie medal.  This was a great experience and one we want to repeat.”
