Christmas Market Trip to Lille-France

Posted on: 14/12/2012

On Wednesday 5th December a group of 46 pupils from Great Torrington School and 5 members of staff visited Lille-France. Lille is a the perfect place for pupils to experience the authentic and magical atmosphere of a traditional Christmas market. Lille hosts one of the most famous markets with over 50 stalls selling traditional and regional crafts, cuisines and gifts.

Pupils explored the town, studying signs, menus and learning about local food and culture, with many trying out their French in the shops and Christmas market. Some were braver than others at speaking, but everyone had a go and was pleasantly surprised that they had successfully managed to make themselves understood.

Mr Matthew Anderson, Head of Modern Foreign Languages said “The pupils gained confidence in communicating in a foreign language and discovered that learning a langauge has real value. I hope they take more opportunities like this to travel abroad and discover new cultures.”
