Match report - Year 7 Football by Joel Cooper, EbCVF

On Thursday evening, GTS battled it out against Chulmleigh in an away game. Straight from the kick-off, both sides knew it was going to be an even game. Roughly 3 minutes in, their left-mid took it past a few of our defenders and managed to score. After that, GTS started to dominate the game. This led to a goal assisted by a lovely whipped cross by Harry Bloodworth to Morgan Gabe on the right wing, who placed it in the bottom left corner, leaving the keeper shocked. Almost straight away, Chulmleigh intercepted a ball across the back line and their captain curled it in - a good finish to be fair! Next, a chance occurred from a nice square ball from Harry into the box and Joel Cooper managed a scrappy finish into the left side of the goal to equalise. Just before half time, a similar chance presented itself to Joel outside the box and we seized the opportunity, 3-2.

Before we knew it, a harsh free-kick broke for the opposition: they smashed it top right hand corner but a world class save by our keeper Morgan Kavanagh tipped it over the bar. They started attacking but our classy defence: Ned Pettifer and James Meardon, broke play up and kept the game rolling by sending the ball up-field to our wingers Tom Bright and Cal Duhig. Chulmleigh's captain shot a nonchalant finish making it 3 all and they nearly broke again, but Louis Atkinson, with pure control, took a fantastic touch making another chance, which led to Morgan Gabe's second goal (4-3). The last goal ensuring victory was a real team effort: Joel was lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time, securing GTS Year 7 A team's first win.
Also, a special mention to Archie Palmer with a great debut.
