Kids Literature Quiz 2012

Eight students from Great Torrington School competed at the 22nd International Children's  Literature Quiz thanks to sponsorship from  GTS Gifted & Talented and Literacy programmes.

Thirty six teams from all over the south west took part.  Subjects for the ten rounds of ten questions  included  amphibians, birds, cannibalism,
creatures, dogs, faeries, hats, galaxies, spelling and wizards.  The quiz was held in the Fal building at Truro  College.  We found this beautiful carved granite obelisk for a celebration photograph.

the team won books and scored 54 points in the competition. 
The winning team from Torbay Boys’ Grammar scored 92 points and moved forward to the UK final in Coventry.                              
You can see top hat wearing quizmaster Wayne Mills from New Zealand in the background.  Wayne won the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education and writes all of the questions himself.  The 22nd world finals will be held in Durban in 2013.

Lily Challice EbTC (captain), Harry Cox EgTT, Jack Taylor RpMBL— the team won books  straight away with the highest score on the first round of book related questions (amphibians) and finished in 4th place overall with 75 points.  Well done Year 8 !
