More than just ping pong

Table tennis is proving to be a very popular after school club at Great Torrington School and is starting to show some signs of some real progress. This year, on Wednesday 8th February, GTS were able to take two teams to Eggbuckland Community College to compete in the Devon County Table Tennis Competition.

Mr Bolton, PE Teacher, who took the team to the competition, gave us this report.

"The whole team were a real pleasure to take away and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. There were some excellent results, considering on the whole they were playing in categories that contained older pupils. Thomas Venn was a quarter finalist and was knocked out in a very tight game by the eventual winner, so he is top 8 in Devon. Tom Beer came third in his pool, which meant he just missed out on the knock out stages."

If other pupils would like to have a go at table tennis and receive some professional coaching from former student, Ben Taylor, then they will be very welcome to join the afterschool club, held weekly on Tuesdays.  Come along and play and have some fun.

Well done to Tom Beer, Aiden Davey, Jake Irvine, Christopher Hunt, Jack Pledger, Thomas Venn, Oliver Sussex and Michael Newberry.
