Appledore Short Story Book Festival Winners 2014

Posted on: 06/11/2014

Congratulations to Kristen Hellens, Year 7 on winning second prize and Owen Hopkins, Year 7 receiving third prize in the 11 years and under age group at the Appledore Book Festival Children's Short Story Competition - Very well done, indeed.

Kristen and Owen wrote the story whilst both pupils at Monkleigh Primary School prior to transferring to Great Torrington School in September.

Kristen said, "I was delighted to win. My old Head teacher rang me to tell me the news.   I enjoy writing making my own stories up and Mr Edwards helped me develop my writing skills as we did lots of spelling and grammar at Monkleigh School and looked at how we structure our stories."  Kirsten was delighted to win £35 book vouchers and is looking forward to purchasing some new books.

Owen won £20 book voucher and has already purchase a book about the Waterloo Battle as he is fascinated about history.  Owen said, "I had this idea of medieval lands in my head and the story just developed from there. I was really pleased with myself and Monkleigh helped me develop my literacy skills.
