WHAT is the subject about?
The GCSE course is divided into four sections; Anglo-
Saxon and Norman England, 1060-1088; The USA 1954-
1975, conflict at home and abroad; The American West,
1835—1895; Warfare through time, 1250-the present.
WHY should I choose this subject?
The course is varied and you will develop useful skills,
understanding and knowledge. You will look at topics like
William the Conqueror to the Vietnam War to flower power
and civil rights, the Wild West and how America was born
and how wars were won and lost.
WHEN and HOW am I assessed?
There will be three exams: Warfare through time (30%),
Anglo-Saxon England (40%) and the American West
(30%).
WHICH subjects should I have an aptitude in?
You must have a real interest in people, a love of the past
and a good standard of literacy. Reading and writing is at
the heart of the subject but you will learn in lots of different
ways.
WHERE could this subject take me in the future?
You could end up working in politics, journalism, the film
industry or law. History will give you an understanding of
how the world works and why we keep making mistakes.
The GCSE will prepare you to go on and study many
subjects.
