GUIDED CHOICES 2017—2020
WHAT is the subject about?
Computer Science is a very practical subject. You will be
able to use the knowledge and skills you learn in the class-
room on real-world problems. It’s also a highly creative
subject that calls on you to be inventive!
WHY should I choose this subject?
New doors are opening in the world of computing, creating
fresh opportunities. This course can start to open these
doors!
WHEN and HOW am I assessed?
2 x exams: one on computer systems and one with a focus
on computational thinking, algorithms and programming (2
x 40% of the final grade). 1 x controlled assessment:
completing a programming project, taking 20 hours (20%
of the final grade).
WHICH subjects should I have an aptitude in?
Computing, ICT and Maths.
WHERE could this subject take me in the future?
Into a sector which continues to grow at an astounding
rate! This GCSE leads nicely onto A Level Computer
Science. It also provides a good grounding for other
subject areas that require problem solving and analytical
skills.
