Year 11 Reunion and
Awards Evening 2016
It was a pleasure to welcome back former pupils to
celebrate their five years of success with GTS. The
presentation evening recognises the achievement of all
our former pupils at Great Torrington School. Alongside
being able to collect GCSE Certificates on the night, it is
an excellent chance for former pupils to catch up with
friends and teachers and celebrate in each other’s
successes.
As well as the evening being a celebration of academic
success, GTS recognises that there are many other
attributes that a young person has that allows them to
flourish and grow in every way possible. Our special
awards were also given out in this year’s school
leaver’s ceremony rewarding all of these qualities.
The guest speaker this year was Steve Young, Chairman
for Torrington Cavaliers who gave the audience a
speech about the work that Torrington Cavaliers do for
the community and about the difference it makes to
people’s lives.
We wish them every success for the future.
National Citizen
Service select Great
Torrington School as
a Champion School
National Citizen Service (NCS), the
government backed youth citizenship
programme, has selected Great Torrington
School to be one of their Champion Schools for 2015-2016.
As a Champion School, GTS fully embraces the NCS award into
their ethos. Year 11 pupils can join the programme which has
been designed to help young people build skills for work and life,
take on new challenges and meet new friends. Participants
develop a social action project to deal with a local issue they're
passionate about, and spend 30 hours putting the project into
action in their community.
We are hoping that once again a large number of our Year 11 will
take part in the scheme and reap the immediate benefit, but also
the longer term rewards as well. For pupils looking to ultimately
progress on to university, UCAS recognise NCS as an extra-
curricular activity which can demonstrate skills on UCAS
application forms.
Year 11 will have a launch assembly in the New Year. For further

Week
This is obviously a
massively important
event for the school and
it went brilliantly. The
teachers put in an
enormous effort, but I think the key ingredient
which makes the week so successful is the
involvement of our pupils. They are wonderful
ambassadors for GTS – we are very proud of them!
We’d like to thank every pupil who helped out in
any way during the week.
We welcome individual family visits all year round
at Great Torrington School, as well as our general
open events throughout the year. If you wish to
visit the school, please do not hesitate to call us on
01805 623531.
