Rotary Young Musician of the
Year Competition
Congratulations to all students who participated in the local heat of the Rotary
Club Young Musician Competition 2015. Eleven pupils who participated in the
local round held at Great Torrington School on Tuesday 1
December, pushed
their nerves aside to take part in the competition. This was the first year that Great
Torrington School participated in the competition and we are so pleased with the
high standard of singing and playing.
Judges Rob Paynter, from Share Music and Zoe Cartlidge, professional musician
had their work cut out in determining the best vocalist and instrumentalist. Their
constructive comments to all of the participant will only put them in good stead of
future rounds or future competitions and performances.
We would like to thank the Rotary Club of Torrington for running such a wonderful
event and it was great to show the talent and skills of the young people of GTS. All
performers certainly provided a very enjoyable evening.
A special well done for winning this local round goes to Rees Parkhouse
(drumming instrumentalist) and Rose Mason (vocalists) who now go on to the
regional heat of the competition which will be held in Plymouth in the New Year.
