Football
Year 7
– The year 7’s have had a very busy
start to the year with football, with not just
North Devon Schools fixtures but also the Devon
County Cup. They have performed brilliantly in
both (both A and B teams respectively) reaching
the final in the North Devon Schools where
unfortunately they lost to Bideford. In the
Devon County Cup they are through to round 3
so far having beaten Dawlish away and
Plymouth Ridgeway at home. Roll on the New
Year and round 3. It’s no surprise that the year
7’s are doing brilliantly though as they regularly
get nearly 30 pupils at training on each Monday
night which is brilliant and I hope they keep up
the good effort after Christmas.
Year 8
– The year 8’s have had an even busier
year than the year 7’s as they have entered 4
different competitions. This year we have
entered the North Devon Schools football, the
Devon County Cup, the English Schools Cup and
the Small Schools Trophy. In the North Devon
Schools football the boys performed amazingly
and reached the final where regrettably they
were pipped at the post by an in form Braunton
team. They were knocked out in the English
Schools cup by St Peters (last year’s winners)
but on a more positive note are still in the hat
for round 3 of the Devon Cup. Their greatest
success has come in the Small Schools Trophy
where they are now through to the latter stages
of this national trophy having beaten teams
from all across the South West, Truro, Yeovil
and South Molton to name a few. Fingers
crossed for the next round in Poole, and then
hopefully beyond that! Keep it up gents we’re
all very proud.
Years 9 and 10
have had a mixed year with football with neither
team progressing into the final stages of either the Devon Cup or the
North Devon Football. We are going to be training hard after Easter to
make sure we are fully prepared for next year’s campaign where we
will be pushing for a similar level of success as the years 7 and 8.
Devon Ability Games. Pupils met Pete Waterfield and his Olympic
Silver medal and Commonwealth medal. Great day was had by all.
