NATIONAL
POETRY DAY
Great Torrington School took
part in National Poetry Day
on
2nd
October
and
embraced the theme for
2014, ‘Remember’ so there’s
lots of scope for reading,
creating
and
generally
celebrating poetry. Here are
some great examples of what
Great Torrington School did
to take part in National
Poetry Day.
A
poetry
competition
launched right across the
school to staff and pupils
based around the theme of
Remember. Mrs Hannah
Dodwell, Head of English said
“We received some amazing
entries for our National
Poetry Day competition. The
winners’
poems
are
outstanding and the pupils
should be very proud of their
writing. Many thanks to
everyone who took part.
All of the above pupils won a
£10 WH Smiths voucher.

I WISH I WAS A PUPIL AGAIN
Having spent the day engaged in a learning walk, I can’t
help wishing I was a pupil again. Myself and a few
colleagues spent the day dropping into various lessons
around the school for short observations. I certainly wish
my own education had been as brilliant as I’ve seen at GTS
today. The learning taking place was varied and interesting;
teachers were inspirational; pupils were happily engaged
throughout the day and all this on a non-school uniform
end-of-term Friday!
