s we approach the end of term I would like to thank all staff, governors, parents and our community for their
support over the past few months. Pupils have continued to excel in various activities throughout the school,
ranging from public art galleries showcasing their work, public speaking competitions, ten tors challenge, to
outstanding sporting and theatrical performances. Even as I write this we have two teams having the experience of
a lifetime in Morocco.
This year pupils’ fundraising activities have been extraordinary with £8795 raised and still counting, the proceeds
going towards local, national and international organisations. It’s incredible what has been achieved and the fun we
have all had in raising the money.
We have received a really good Ofsted report and been awarded the Gold Artsmark Award and the Devon
Employer Business Education Award (first school in Devon to receive this). This couldn’t have been achieved
without dedication from the pupils, staff and our working partners. For more information on these stories please
look at our website.
This term as we close this academic year we say some fond farewells to Mrs Anita Hardy and Mr Peter Ash,
Assistant Headteachers, retiring after a very long career with GTS. Their dedication to GTS has enabled so many
pupils to succeed not just in their school career but on into later life.
There are a number of staff leaving us this year either to move to other schools or to start a well-earned retirement
from teaching.
Mrs Sue Holmes - Teacher – Health & Social Care/3Rs/ Geography – Moving out of the area
Mr Roger Bicheno - Science Teacher - Temporary Contract ends
Miss Debbie Halesworth - English Teacher - Leaving
Mrs Nicky Taylor – Teacher – English- Moving to another school
Miss Valentina Peteva – MTA - Going to work at another school
Mrs Lisa Buss – Receptionist - End of Temporary Contract
Mrs Sarah Casavieille-Lacaze – Will be going on Maternity leave in September 2012
We wish them all well in the future and thank them for being part of ‘the team’. I shall introduce new members
of staff in my September letter.
As well as looking forward to welcoming our new staff, we also look forward to our new Year 7 pupils joining us
in September. They have recently enjoyed their transition week with camp and I am positive that they will all
settle in well.
I wish you a very happy relaxing summer break and hope that we all get to experience some sunshine soon!
