Dream Believe Achieve
Competition, Pilton
On Friday 8
March, Mr Anderson took four
candidates to Pilton‟s Annual Language Speaking
competition; Frances Langbridge, Amy Cornish,
Max Thomas and Susie Roberts.
This event is supported by many schools from
around North Devon and this year saw even
more new schools turning up to compete.
Categories range from Year 7 to the sixth form
and the competition is for both native and non-
native categories. A wide range of languages
were spoken including Mandarin, Polish, Russian,
Cantonese, Spanish and French. The
presentations were both highly entertaining and
interesting. I think all of us learnt something
about somewhere.
Of course, the highlight of our day was meeting an Olympian! At lunch Tom Daley arrived and competed
in the KS5 category. He did his speech on the Olympics and his training in Spanish. He trains in Spain
so he was very fluent. After the competition there were lots of photos and signatures to be obtained!
We thoroughly enjoyed the day and we think everyone else did too. We are also already looking
forward to entering next year as well!

World Challenge Update
Great Torrington School has sixteen pupils signed up for
their World Challenge expedition in July 2014 to
Swaziland. World Challenge expeditions are educational
expeditions run through school, that head to developing
world communities for two weeks. This is a life changing
experience. Signing up to an expedition means so much
more than a few weeks abroad. It involves fundraising the
money, expedition planning and organising. Students will
learn money management skills, develop social skills and
lead teams in challenging circumstances and build
confidence whilst exploring a fascinating country. Many of
the pupils have started fundraising their money by
organising quizzes, collecting old clothes for money, a ping
pong ball race and much more. Please support them in
achieving their dreams.
