Two teams of four students
recently took part in the North
Devon team maths challenge at
Bideford College. The competition
is aimed at stretching pupils
beyond the normal maths taught
to GCSE level and includes
questions at additional GCSE maths
and A level standard. There are a
series of rounds where pupils are
expected to solve problems in practical situations within a time limit.
Our teams did very well in the competition, with one team coming second and only missing out
on first place by 3 points. Well done to everyone who took part.

March was World Book Day and a host of our
characters from the world of literature were found to be
teaching GTS pupils to mark the day. One of the most
frightening characters to attend was a Head Mistress, known
as Miss Trunchbull from Roald Dahls’, ‘Maltida’. Thankfully no
pupils ended up in the Chokey. On leaving the classroom, just
when you think things couldn’t get any worse, you came face
to face with scary Bertha Mason – the mad woman in the attic
in Charlotte Bronte’s, ‘Jane Eyre’ novel. Thankfully it wasn’t
all villians that visited GTS, our heroine of the day was none
other than Katniss Everdeen from the soon to be released film
The Hunger Games”. Other well known characters were Meg
from ‘Meg and Mog’ by
&
also
mean Mrs Reed from Charlotte Bronte’s ‘Jane Eyre’ appeared
during the day. A fun day was had by all. Please don’t forget
to spend your £1 voucher that you received on World Book
